Social Equity as a Driver for Neighborhood Development: Embracing Community Engagement

June 2, 1-2 pm ET
GBCI Continuing Education: LEED AP ND, LEED Green Associate

In community, cities and neighborhood development work, the challenge with every project is to go beyond simply having community engagement to truly embracing it. Beginning with a vision and principles that are guided by community empowerment and self-determination, environmental justice and equitable development, this session will explore the challenges we’ve faced and the lessons we’ve learnt through 3 case study projects where social equity was a guide, and in some cases even a driver, for the neighborhood development process.

Examples from:

  • Oxnard Sustainable Transportation Plan (STP)

  • Western Riverside Focused Community Transportation Needs Assessment

  • Multnomah County Capital Projects
